{shari} flagged

This is my cute top for our casual Friday night Shabbat dinner. I waited patiently for it to go on sale at Anthropologie. I snagged it for 50% off. Any suggestions as to what I should wear on the bottom would be most appreciated!

{sadie} earrings

i really like wearing earrings, and i assume now that i will probably be wearing them to the service and the party. i bought long dangly ones at a vintage store a few months ago that are a nice silver, that i am pretty sure i'm wearing for the party. i don't think they would be good for the service though, a little too long. but these ones would be really cute for the service, small and pretty.

striped {sadie}

heres a collage i made on fun striped clothes, and then just a few other nautical items thrown in. i really like the headband, thats just above the bottom shoe and next to the ring. i like headbands, but the only problem with them is that they always just get lost in my hair.

romper. {sadie}

i think rompers as a party outfit would be a good idea. i like the idea of not having to wear a dress to everything all the time, and rompers can still be dressy if they are the right kind.

i really like the color of this romper. maybe it would be somewhat easy to try and make a romper? just a thought.

{shari} meet the crew

Sadie - Bat Mitzvah Girl
Creative director and visionary behind Sailor Glam.
It seems she predicted a trend here. Thanks Anthropologie
for practically designing an entire Sailor Glam
line this season. Make no mistake, she's the captain!

Sophie - Good Natured Sister, Bat Mitzvah Veteran
Sophie's been down this road. She's cool under pressure. Sophie knows how to pull off the Hebrew portion of this wonderful day. She's also our go-to hair and makeup gal and all around talented girl. We'll keep Sophie very busy.

Alan aka Daddy
Alan, graphic designer and great idea guy. He will work with Sadie on her invitation and create some original artwork for the temporary tattoos. Sadie is lucky to have such a talented Daddy.

Olive - Alan's sidekick
Olive won't do a thing but sit around and look cute.

Shari aka Mommy
All around handy, I'll carry out the vision on time and in budget!

Tully & Kalynn - Our Best Pals
Tully has great style and talent. For Sophie's bat mitzvah, Tully addressed all of the invitations with his unique hand lettering. To say calligraphy would be misleading.
His fonts have personality galore!
Kalynn is simply great at everything! She brings beauty, fun and excitement to every event we've celebrated together. Kalynn and I will be two peas in a pod starting around September. It's good that we love each other!

Eric - Big Brother & Man of Mystery

Eric has a big job. He will make the Sadie movie we'll show at the party. He did a wonderful job on the movie he created for Sophie. Eric is fantastic with words and music. No doubt he'll help Sadie fine tune her speech.

Malina the Cool
Malina is a prop stylist. You might not know it, but you've seen her work. Malina travels to interesting places and sees cool around every corner. She is also super resourceful! We love that quality in a crew mate.

With a crew like this, Sadie's party is bound to be glam!
You'll meet all the rest of our family and friends along the way.
We love and appreciate each and every one.

{shari} tallit for sadie

When working on a quilt, I do a lot of scavenging through my stash. Over the past few months, anytime I ran across a fabric I liked for Sadie's tallit, I set it aside. If I didn't, it might be months before I found that particular piece again. Really. Here is a small collection of fabrics, yarns and trims to use (or not) in Sadie's tallit. I'm really fond of the hand dyed velvet and the navy with "waves" of stripes cut on the bias. How Sailor Glam is that?

Here are a couple of other tallits that I've made.

{shari} glam net

Thinking about sailor knots has now evolved into
thinking about netting.
Wouldn't it be cool to dye muslin various shades of blue,
tear it into strips and make a big net?
I know just where I'd use it.
Now, I just have to figure out how to make it!
Look at this video I came across. It's mesmerizing .

{shari} beyond sprinkles

Don't my little sailor friends look smart in their party hats?
These are the cupcake liners we'll be using for Sadie's party
cupcakes. They came from Sur La Table.
Thanks for the heads up Ann.

Serving cupcakes for the party is an easy call when your best running
pals just so happen to be phenomenal bakers!
Look at these fantiastic cupcakes that Sue and Ann made for Sophie's
bat mitzvah. Delicious and elegant, dusted in sugar and topped
with a single pink jelly bean.
Using a venue that allows outside food gives your friends and family
a way to contribute to your party in such a helpful (and tasty!) way.
Thank you girls... home made is always best!
A note on the flowers:
I handmade all the paper flowers
from Martha Stewart kits. I used them in various places.
Every Sunday paper for a few months I would
clip the 40% coupon for Michaels arts and crafts store and
buy another paper flower kit. They were tedious, but so beautiful.
I didn't regret the time spent making them.

Ann writes a wonderful food and photography
blog. She's an incredibly talented home chef and artist.
Go over and say hello right here.

{sadie} flaggy flaggy flaggy flag.

Decorations are a big deal. they pretty much make the theme. my sister's bat mitzvah theme was pink, so it wasn't to hard to comprehend the idea..but i will have to try to get across the theme from just the visuals. So i love these flags. my mom makes these really great triangular party flags, that we could probably do with these same patterns.

and since that is the sailor alphabet, we could spell something out having to do with the bat mitzvah. and since the patterns are so simple, i think it would be pretty easy to recreate.

and on a side note having nothing to do with my bat mitzvah, i think this is funny.

{sadie} dressy

today, i found this adorable dress, that i thought completely fit the theme. my mom and i think that this would be a great dress for the service, because its not too flashy, but still really nice looking. i really love how high the collar is, it reminds me sorta of a kimono dress, which i really like.

oh, and thats me by the way.

{shari} body of water? check!

Doesn't a party billed as Sailor Glam just beg for a body of water??
Lucky for us, we have rented a beautiful 1940's party place that sits on top of a rolling hill overlooking our nearby city lake.
The price might be the best in town and the location is primo.
Another huge plus is our familiarity of the space.
We had Sophie's party here too and it was terrific.
There aren't a lot of rule and restrictions.
No list of approved caterers (we'll bring in some of our own food) and
no limits on decor. Perfectly unfancy. Just the way we like it!

Great drive up appeal.

Tables and chairs are provided. We'll likely use the tables and
rent nicer chairs.

This is my favorite part of the building. A wrap around L- shaped
screened in porch. Last time we set up our food tables out here.

We love it.
What do you think?

{shari} knot yet clear....

.....on how we're going to use knots. But we will use knots. Somehow. Somewhere.

photos from a common thread blog where you can see stefany's knotty jewelry

{sadie} finger waves

these are all pictures from a teen vogue spread a few months ago. the hair and makeup is really, really nice and something similar to what i was thinking about for the hairstyles of the night.
